Stand Up, Be Heard youth forum

The Stand Up, Be Heard youth forum saw students from high schools from across metropolitan Perth discuss the importance of youth advocacy.

The one-day forum explored the perceived barriers to advocacy, how young people could overcome these barriers, who could help them effect change through advocacy, and how they can put advocacy into action.

97 year nine students from 13 schools attend the forum which took place on 20 June 2023. They spent the day brainstorming and discussing their views which were captured in a report and videos.

Key findings from the forum were that many young people feel confident in speaking up about issues but are unsure of how to do so effectively, and believed they would not be listened to if they did voice their opinions. Participants identified many internal and external factors they may face in speaking up.
