Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse
Since the release of the Royal Commission’s Final Report in 2017, the Commissioner for Children and Young People has strongly advocated that governments and leaders are ambitious and unflinching in their approach to implementing the recommendations, resourcing these efforts, acknowledging where we need to better protect and respond to children and young people.
The Commissioner has many areas of work in progress directly relevant to the some of the Royal Commissioner recommendations: child safe organisations, child friendly complaints mechanisms, harmful sexual behaviours in children and young people, oversight of services for children and young people, and advocacy and support.
December 2022 will mark the halfway point of the implementation period of the recommendations, with this milestone in mind, the Commissioner engaged KPMG to undertake a rapid review of the progress of the implementation across Australia of the 24 recommendations in Volume 6 of the Final Report, Making Institutions Child Safe. The Australian Children's Commissioner and Guardians Group made a statement on the review findings.
